7+1: What I'm reading, watching, listening to, etc..
.

I’ve been thinking a lot about clarity and how we need to simplify the things we focus on so we can make them happen. Make it simple so you know it can get done daily too. Here’s one quote I came across over the weekend that I’ve transcribed onto a 3x5 card and it’s not sitting on my desk.
The sign above the players’ entrance to the field at Notre Dame reads ‘Play like a champion today’. I sometimes joke that the sign at Nebraska reads ‘Remember your helmet’. Charlie and I are ‘Remember your helmet’ kind of guys. We like to keep it simple.
Let’s go!
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT
Y Realty is Open. We did it. We’re open in California and expanding outward. Our focus is on Relationsihps, Community, and Leadership. Core components that will never change in human society. We will inspire change from the inside out. If you’re curious about how we are different jump in here.
BOOK I’M READING
All I Want To Know Is Where I'm Going To Die So I'll Never Go There. Super long title, but amazing book. I’m not done yet, but it’s so much fun to read that I need to endorse it. It’s told in the form of a person seeking advice from wise people and the 2 wise people happen to be Buffett and Munger. The author uses their quotes from other past books and interviews so it blends perfectly within the book.
WHAT I’M WATCHING
Mark Twain Documentary. This is great! It’s a two part documentary that I’m watching and it’s done very well. I didn’t know much about Mr. Twain until I finished watching this and now I’m inclined to read Hucklberry Finn again. I’m watching it on PBS, but I’ve also seen it on Amazon Prime.
WHAT I’M LISTENING TO
Ray Croc Podcast. This one was great! It showed the real side of Ray and didn’t hold anything back. The podcaster goes over the highlights from a book he read and pieces together other things he’s learned from founders along the way. Very well done.
WHAT I JUST BOUGHT
Overlord Cap. I just bought a cap, it’s from a childhood cartoon I used to watch. I’m not telling you which one it is, but you will see it on a webinar soon. Love these caps.
ARTICLE I’M READING
How to craft a memorable message, according to science. Numerous researches have shown that we forget much of what we experience in a day. Knowing this, how do you create messages so there is a better chance of people remembering them? The author uses concepts from memory science to help you craft messages — whether it’s a presentation, an email, or a speech — that will be likely to stick. One way to craft a memorable message is to chunk it up. Explicitly tie together the points that you want to convey under the umbrella of a central idea. With this approach, your listener can stitch the pieces together in a meaningful way and build a rich memory for that material. Or, when communicating about a complex topic, you can make your message memorable with a concrete example instead of something vague. Remember to provide callbacks as recalling something that we previously learned can make it stronger and easier to access when we will need it. Lastly, spark their curiosity. The key to memorable communication lies not in conveying the answer, but in establishing a compelling question.
WHAT TECH I’M TESTING OUT
ChatGPT o1. Well this is pretty amazing. o1 can be used by healthcare researchers to annotate cell sequencing data, by physicists to generate complicated mathematical formulas needed for quantum optics, and by developers in all fields to build and execute multi-step workflows. Particularly useful if you’re tackling complex problems in science, coding, math, and similar fields.
WHAT I’M WORKING ON
10 Laws of Followup. It’s something I just put together that takes into consideration the new world we are in and how it’s now a more value driven environment than ever before. If you need a copy just text me to: 310-356-3715.
